Qualsafe Level 4 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (RQF)

As the next step for those who have completed the Qualsafe Level 3 Award in First Response Emergency Care (RQF), this qualification provides learners with a broader scope of practice in prehospital care emergencies, thereby enhancing employment opportunities. Please note, learners must hold a valid Level 3 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (FREC3) to enrol in this course.

The Qualsafe Level 4 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) is a regulated and nationally recognised prehospital care qualification, specifically designed for individuals aiming to advance their careers within the NHS or independent ambulance services as emergency care assistants, intermediate ambulance practitioners, event medical providers, associate practitioners, or healthcare assistants.

NMC Registered Nurses with CPD activity covering the content of FREC3 wanting direct entry to FREC4 are required to undertake FREC3 assessments (as a minimum) prior to registering on a FREC4 course.

Syllabus

Meeting the competencies outlined in the PHEM skills framework at descriptor level E, this qualification syllabus equips learners with the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to manage a wide range of prehospital care emergencies, including major incidents, fracture immobilisation, sick and injured children, mental health issues, and more.
Here are some of the key areas covered:

  1. Advanced Patient Assessment: Conducting systematic clinical evaluations and decision-making in emergency care.
  2. Airway Management & Ventilation: Using suction units, airway adjuncts, supraglottic devices, and oxygen therapy.
  3. Electrocardiogram (ECG) Application and Monitoring: Understanding heart disease and monitoring patients using ECGs.
  4. Thoracic Trauma Management: Handling injuries to the chest, including the use of immobilisation and extrication equipment.
  5. Medical Gases: Administering and managing medical gases in emergency situations

The course also includes multiple assessments to ensure learners have mastered the necessary skills and knowledge

Qualification
