FREC 3 RPL (2 Days)
The FREC 3 RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) course is designed for those individuals who have a prior understanding of pre-hospital emergency care and who now wish to gain a formal qualification in the form of FREC 3.
This intensive 2-day programme allows participants to demonstrate their skills and competency by achieving a recognised First Responder Emergency Care Level 3 qualification. This course is designed for anyone who has prior learning from either regulated or unregulated courses, as included on the below list.

Requirements
To enrol in the FREC 3 RPL course, participants must meet the following requirements
- Be at least 17 years old at the start of the training
- Recognised Pre Hospital Care (PHC) regulated qualifications for Level 3 RPL route, with one of the following valid certificates:

TQUK Level 3 Award for Initial Person on the Scene of an Incident (RQF) (603/5085/4)
DAO Level 3 Award in Immediate Emergency Care Provider (603/3571/3)
QNUK Level 3 Award for First Responders (RQF) (603/3961/5)
QNUK Level 3 Award in First Person on Scene (International) (RQF) (603/6688/6)
QNUK Level 3 Award in Rescue Trauma and Casualty Care (RTACC) (RQF) (603/6687/4)
Pearson BTEC Level 3 Certificate for First Person on Scene (FPOS) (603/6353/8)
Safecert Level 3 Award for First Person on Scene for an Emergency First Responder (610/0810/2)
FAQ Level 3 Award for First Responders on Scene: Amb. Ser. Community Responder (603/6252/2)
FAQ Level 3 Award in First Responders on Scene: Emergency First Responders (603/6795/7)
FAQ Level 3 Award in Immediate Emergency Care: Fire and Rescue Services (603/7366/0)
MPQC Level 3 Award in Advanced First Aid for Remote and Mining Environments (603/2433/8)
Those individuals who hold the following Internal Casualty Care or First Responder courses, may be eligible to enrol in the FREC 3 RPL course, however further information may be required and contacting ABC Paramedic Services directly to discuss options is advised.

- Mountain Rescue Casualty Care
- Lowland Rescue Casualty Care
- RNLI Casualty Care (for Lifeboat Crew and Lifeguards)
- NHS Ambulance Service Community First Responder (CFR)
- Cave Rescue Casualty Care
- Mines Rescue Casualty Care
Course Content
The FREC 3 RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) course is held over 2 days with various topics covered within the course syllabus:
- Patient Assessment: Primary and secondary Surveys, taking of vital signs and history
- Recognition of Traumatic Emergencies: Fractures, spinal injuries, head injuries, soft tissue care
- Recognition of Medical Emergencies: Cardiac, respiratory, diabetic, seizures
- Airway Management: Airway Techniques, introduction of adjuncts, treatment of choking
- Basic Life Support: CPR, AED use, post-resuscitation care
- Bleeding and Shock: Haemorrhage control, recognising symptoms of shock, trauma dressings
- Recognition of Environmental Emergencies: Hypothermia, hyperthermia, drowning, poisoning and bites
All Learners regardless of prior qualifications MUST complete and successfully pass all FREC3 assessments.
FREC 3 Assessments consist of
- 6 x practical assessments/skills tests
- 3 x theory assessments (multiple choice question papers)
- 1 x invigilated exam.
Qualification
Once the FREC3 RPL course has been successfully completed, a Qualsafe approved FREC Level 3 certificate will be issued. This is valid for three years, and provides learners the opportunity to progress to FREC Level 4 courses if they so wish.
